Mic’d Up For The Planet: Voiceover Insights with Kath Crumrine

Voice Over insights with Kath Crumrine

Introduction

What genres of voiceover (VO) do you work in?

Pretty much everything but not a lot of book narration, video games, or promos.

Briefly, why do you love being part of VO4TP? What motivated you to join VO4TP?

I appreciate being part of a collective of VO talent who are using our resources to support organizations doing good work in the world. I love being connected to that.

What are 3 words your best friend would use to describe you?

Authentic. Courageous. Goofy.

What aspects of your job bring you the most joy?

I love collaborating with clients to give their stories a voice.

How did you get started as a voice actor?

My best friend was an Emmy award producer (who worked with Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs) and started her own production company. She reached out because she suspected my voice would compliment her videos and she was right!

If you hadn’t pursued voice acting, what career path might you have explored instead?

I have had all kinds of careers, I was a music teacher for parents with young children. I ran a summer camp for kids wanting to perform. I was a youth group leader. I served as a volunteer coordinator for a Montessori based spiritual education program. Now I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and training in Integral Somatic Psychology and am lit up by the work I do teaching small groups somatic support tools, and offering 1:1 coaching.

The Business Side

In what ways has being a part of VO4TP challenged or changed your day to day business?

Offering a somatic support group for VO4TP upped my game by teaching a larger group of Voice actors who share a common thread besides our careers (VO4TP).

Environmentalism

Which organizations are you most passionate about giving to with your time and money?

I donate to PERC which is a Montana-based non profit that partners with land owners and businesses to create solutions for issues like fire management, wolf reintroduction, Bison guardianship, water and land uses in Utah, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

I also support the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone – a non-profit wildlife management organization providing rehabilitation and education for Raptors, Grizzlies, Wolves, River Otters, & Cutthroat Trout. They deeply respect the majestic animals who live in various ecosystems and at their facility site and provide education resources for visitors to their center.

Any great tips on being sustainable in your work and/or life?

I’m still learning. Being respectful of animals and land we use by driving speed limits, not littering, being responsible when camping (using bear bags, canisters etc), supporting organizations that are providing needed resources for education.

For Fun

If you could have any animal as a pet (real or mythical), what would it be and why?

I wouldn’t want an elephant as a pet, but I plan to go see them soon in Africa!

What is the most adventurous activity you have ever done, and how did it change your perspective?

Starting my SE coaching business. It is a deep labor of love and helping me evolve into the person I want to become. It is both humbling and inspiring work.
