More About Jeffery
To begin, let’s set the Wayback Machine to the long-lost year of 1993. That’s when months of sucking up to my favorite radio DJs paid off and I got my first broadcasting gig as co-host of Sacramento’s KWOD 106.5 morning show. I was also the station’s production director, which meant I got a ton of experience writing commercial copy and editing audio – although in those days, the editing was done with razor blades and Scotch tape. Yes, I’m that old.
My production experience helped me land my next gig, as a copywriter at an ad agency. The Mad Men-era excesses of the past were long gone, but what I experienced there was way better: collaboration with a whip-smart group of creative artists, writers, and producers. Before long, I was directing VO recording sessions for the agency. During one of those sessions, a client asked me to record a demo voice track for him. He liked the demo so much he used it in his commercial, and that’s how my career in voice acting started.
I still do lots of commercial work today, but I’ve also carved out a nice little niche in e-learning and audiobook narration. In my free time I’m teaching myself to play the bass guitar, I do lots of musical theater, I go on nature hikes with my wife Leisa and son Jaren, and I play an unhealthy amount of Bejeweled Blitz. Man, I love that game.
Sustainable Organizations Jeffery Supports
I believe manmade climate change is the main existential challenge of our lifetimes. Living in California, there’s no hiding from this issue, as I see both droughts and wildfires increasing in severity. So I plan to give to organizations that move us towards a carbon-neutral society.
On a personal level, though, I’m most passionate about the overuse of plastic. I’ve become hypersensitive to the absurdity of single-use plastics over the past few years, to the point where I now wash and reuse cling wrap and Ziploc bags. Lord help me, I’m even considering dumping my beloved Dutch Bros. coffee because it’s served in plastic cups, and I can’t stomach throwing them away after one use. Orgs that promote plastic reuse/recycling or work towards finding a good substitute for single-use plastics will be high on my donation wish list.
