More About Mara
Mara Finerty first began performing in a local children’s chorus when she was seven years old. She used to say that she was “allergic” to singing. Yep, she was definitely not clear on the concept of allergies when she was young.
A San Francisco native, her acting work has included leading roles in Shakespeare plays, cabaret revues and musicals…and now voice acting. After touring the U.S. in Les Miserables, she transitioned to a career in the business and non-profit worlds as an HR executive and employment attorney. She returned to acting via voiceover work, soon after she moved to the Sonoma Valley, where she records from her home studio in Kenwood and lives with her Husky-Heinz 57-rescue pup, Scout, who frequently sneaks in the booth for naps between recording sessions.
Mara is creative, quick, makes strong choices and takes direction exceptionally well – her training in improv and as an executive coach has taught her how to listen well, be able to turn on a dime and improvise with ease in the booth. She is adept with character work and accents as well as making complex technical scripts clear and understandable for the non-technical listener.
The combination of her business and acting skills, gives Mara a keen ability to bring intelligence, empathy and confidence to a wide variety of projects, including commercials, political, corporate and video narration, museum audio tours and eLearning projects. Her clients have included Orpheo US, Boehringer Ingelheim, the CDC Museum, Capgemini/Invent, Learning Ally and Audible. Currently, she can be heard on Bloomberg News Weekend.
Environmental Organizations Mara Supports
- Dogwood Animal Rescue – a Northern California animal rescue that does amazing work to rescue, transport and home some of the hardest cases of abandoned dogs and cats. They also sponsor free or low cost spay/neuter clinics in several areas in California. (I adopted my Husky-mix dog, Scout, from them after he was abandoned in a field in the Central Valley with a littermate brother.)
-
Planned Parenthood – I have supported Planned Parenthood for many years and given all that is going on currently with restricting reproductive rights and freedoms, I feel it is even more important to support their mission.
-
Southern Poverty Law Center – The SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. They work to ensure that the promise of the civil rights movement became a reality for all and have won numerous landmark legal victories on behalf of the exploited, the powerless and the forgotten.
-
Landpaths – LandPaths is an environmental education and conservation leader with the mission to foster a love of the land in Sonoma County. They believe everyone should have access to nature and lead education programs and creative outings led in both English and Spanish, environmental education, nature camps, and people-powered land stewardship of local open spaces.
